ABOUT THE SESSIONS
Each block takes inspiration from a variety of artists and mediums. They are as varied as possible enabling the children to explore different ways of working from painting, to sculpture, to collage and more.
08/09 - Magical Sunflowers - we’re kicking off the block taking inspo from Van Gogh. We’ll have fun studying and sketching these wonderful flowers together on the floor, then we’ll create our own sunflower masterpieces using whatever medium you like - painting / collage / 3D sculpture / clay
15/09 - Felt Buddies - we’re going small scale this week, making mini travel pals or bedtime buddies out of felt. We’ll pop them in their very own little tin box beds so you can take them with you wherever you go!
29/09 - Connecting the Dots - We’re going crazy for maps this week! We’ll layout a long roll of paper and design an art club map together, then we’ll create our own version of the underground map but instead of stations we’ll use lines and stops to show connections between people or things, inspired by Simon Pattersons famous The Great Bear print. Your map could be themed on creepy crawlies or wild animals, pop stars or Pokémon characters - whatever you like!
06/10 - Sun Printing - We’re taking inspo from photographer and botanist Anna Atkins this week, creating our very own cyanotype prints. Bring in your favourite miniature objects or plants/leaves and we’ll expose them to the sun on special paper to create sun prints.
13/10 - Light Up Globes - We’ll transform paper lanterns into maps of the world, and light them up with mini fairy lights!
20/10 - Monster Misfits - a halloween themed week! We’ll have fun creating giant monster misfit drawings together as a group, then we’ll paint Picasso inspired monster portraits on canvas to take home
DURING THE SESSIONS
You’re welcome to join in with the children or sit back and relax. For any children 4 and under we ask that a grown up sits with them during the session. Younger siblings are welcome to play while the session takes place.
